Hi. I’m Thomas with Mattioni Plumbing, Heating & Cooling. When you’re dealing with slow or clogged drains, it can be hard to know what is happening and how to fix it. In this video, I’m here to answer some of the most asked questions we get about drain cleaning and help you understand what could be happening in your home.
What can cause drains to clog in the first place?
Many reasons can cause clogged drain lines, such as draining or flushing something that you shouldn’t. Cracked or bulging drain lines. Tree root intrusion into your line and more.
What happens during a professional during cleaning?
A drain pro will clear the sewer line of various obstructions such as tree roots, sludge, grease, or foreign objects with a drain snake. A snake is a heavy duty steel cable that is fed through a drum. This will temporarily alleviate clogging and other drainage issues. They will typically access the sewer line via an outside or inside clean out or fixture. If it was a main drain clog. The Drain Pro will inspect the sewer line with the camera after the drain clearing, to attempt to understand what caused the clog to occur and inspect your line for damage.
Should I use rootX or other draino solutions?
No Draino or other drain clearing chemicals can damage sewer lines and contaminate our water supply. RootX and other tree root eliminators typically do not help that much, and even if they do help in the short term, roots usually come back stronger than before.
If my clog is caused by tree roots, can’t we just cut down the tree and they will go away?
Unfortunately, no. If a tree has breached your drain line, the roots can feed off of the sewage and live even without the tree.
How long until my drain could clog on me again?
The answer to this question really depends on your unique situation. Here at Mattioni, we give customers a severity number from 1 to 10 to help them understand how likely a recurring clog is to happen. A ten means that your system will likely clog on your next flush. For example, if you are dealing with a completely collapsed line, a one would mean that it is unlikely to occur again soon. Like if someone were to flush something that they were not supposed to and no damage was done to the line.
How much does drain clearing typically cost?
If you choose a company with the drain special, a clearing typically cost between $90 and $200. Without a special, drain clearings generally cost between $500 and $1100.
