Bathroom Remodeling Trends: Luxury and Relaxation

The bathroom is increasingly becoming a place where people go to relax and recharge after a long day of work. Its role is moving beyond that of simply a space for hygiene and turning into a sanctuary complete with luxurious features, from large open showers to heated floors. In addition to providing a peaceful area, a bathroom outfitted with such features also increases the value of the home it’s in.

The following trends in bathroom remodeling are as good for your well-being as there are for your investment:

Large showers: Large showers are fast becoming one of the most sought-after features of a bathroom. Even in small bathrooms, homeowners are making room for larger showers by removing bathtubs altogether. Heavy, hinged glass doors often adorn these spacious showers, letting more light in. Some people are even removing walls in the quest to turn their shower into more of a spa experience.

Soaking tubs: The rise of large showers doesn’t mean bathtubs are going away, but they are changing. The emphasis on Jacuzzi tubs is giving way to quiet, soaking tubs. These are deep, insulated tubs that provide a much more serene experience than the traditional water-jet Jacuzzi style tubs offer.

Steam baths: Steam room systems are the perfect way to de-stress after work, and more homeowners than ever are having them installed in their bathrooms. These systems can be activated from the garage as people come home, and require many modifications to the bathroom to ensure proper moisture control, among other things.

Glass tiles: Glass tiles are a stylish and secure solution. Not only can they be arranged in interesting designs as they come in different colors, but their small size creates more grout lines per square foot that increases the traction they provide to your feet.

Framed mirrors: Framed mirrors are a simply stylish and elegant addition to your bathroom. They are fast becoming a sought-after trend in bathroom remodeling, with treated wood frames appearing more and more in the top 10 lists for trends in that field.

Pedestal sinks: Pedestal type sinks add a stylish touch to your bathroom, while also providing more space. This can be especially welcome in smaller bathrooms. Consider a pedestal bathroom sink if you are looking to add a touch of classical elegance to your bathroom.

Separated toilet: Many homeowners are opting to put the toilet in its own little room for privacy and to achieve the clean look.

Paint colors: If the bathroom has very little light you should choose light colors and mirrors to make the room look brighter and bigger than it is. If the room has natural light you can go for a darker color.
