Toilet Leaks – What to do before the Professionals Arrive

If you have a blocked or leaking toilet, and the traditional plumbing methods such as pouring hot water down the toilet bowl or using a plunger have not worked, you should contact a professional plumbing service immediately.

In the meantime, there are a few things you should do in order to minimize the damage of a clogged or leaking toilet until our team arrives.

– Stop the water flow by shutting off the water supply valve. The valve should be located right behind the toilet and usually looks like a regular faucet knob.
– Remove the spilled water and debris in order to avoid humidity, dampness and bad odours.
– Do not attempt to flush the toilet again as it will cause more water to be pumped into the toilet bowl. If the toilets bowl is clogged, the second flush could possibly cause the bowl to overflow.
– Protect the floor to minimize the damage of an overflowing toilet occurring by spreading newspapers or paper towels on the floor to soak up the water. Minor spills and splashes are bound to occur as we work to unclog your toilet.
