Full System Replacement (AC & Furnace)
Replacing both your AC and furnace at the same time is one of the smartest investments a homeowner can make. It saves on labor, ensures compatibility between systems, and resets both warranties at once.
One thermostat, one matched system. When your heating and cooling equipment is designed to work together, everything downstream gets simpler.
What to expect from your visit
Your Field Supervisor will assess your ductwork, evaluate both systems, and walk you through matched AC and furnace options across all efficiency tiers. Replacing both at once gives you greater flexibility in equipment selection and typically saves $2,000 to $3,000 in labor compared to two separate installs. They'll also discuss whether replacement is your best option.

Your AC and furnace share key components, most importantly the blower motor. When one is new and one is old, the mismatch reduces efficiency and accelerates wear on the newer unit. From there, they'll walk you through your options across all relevant system types and help you understand what makes sense for your home. If your system just needs maintenance rather than replacement, they'll tell you that too.
Replacement vs. repair: what to know going in
Not every visit ends in a replacement recommendation. If your system is relatively young or the issue is straightforward, a repair or tune-up may be the right call. Your Field Supervisor will give you an honest assessment, including when it makes more financial sense to repair now and plan for replacement later.

Whether you're replacing a failing furnace, adding central AC, or exploring an efficiency upgrade, here's what to know going in.

What to expect from your visit
Your Field Supervisor will assess your ductwork and walk you through single-speed, multi-speed, and variable-speed options, including compatible AC systems if relevant. They'll also discuss whether replacement is your best option.
Efficiency at a glance
Furnaces are rated by AFUE, which measures how much fuel becomes usable heat. An 80% AFUE rating means 80¢ of every dollar of gas heats your home. High-efficiency furnaces (90%+ AFUE) cost more upfront but offer lower monthly bills. Your Field Supervisor will help you find the right break-even point for your home.

Central Air Conditioning

Efficiency and sizing: what drives the decision
AC efficiency is measured by SEER2. The higher the rating, the less it costs to run. Sizing (in tons) must match your home's square footage, insulation, windows, and ductwork. An oversized unit short-cycles and wastes energy, and an undersized one runs constantly. Your Field Supervisor will determine the right fit.

Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are one of the most efficient options available. They heat and cool using a single system and can replace both your furnace and AC. New to the concept? Start with the guide below. It walks through what a heat pump is, how it works, and what installation looks like from start to finish.
One outdoor unit handles both heating and cooling, so a heat pump takes up no more space outside than the AC it replaces.

Greater Philadelphia winters are cold but manageable for modern heat pumps. Cold-climate models perform reliably down to 0°F. For the coldest stretches, a hybrid setup that pairs a heat pump with your existing gas or oil furnace lets you save energy most of the year while keeping your furnace as a backup when it's most efficient.

Ductless Mini Splits
Mini splits are ideal for homes without ductwork, or for adding zoned comfort to specific areas. They deliver both heating and cooling in one system.

The number of indoor heads is the biggest cost variable. One head for a room addition is a very different project from a whole-home, multi-zone install. Proper sizing directly affects both comfort and long-term efficiency, and your Field Supervisor will recommend the right configuration for your home.

Boilers
Boiler homeowners have more options than most, from targeted efficiency upgrades to replacements and hybrid mini split setups.
Circulators, controls, and piping are often worth upgrading on their own. Not every boiler visit ends in a replacement.

Four answers make the whole visit easier
Every Mattioni visit starts with listening. You don't need to research anything or dig up paperwork. Rough answers to these four are plenty, and your Field Supervisor will fill in the rest.
The basics
- How old is the system, roughly, and what's been repaired lately?
- What's your fuel source? Gas, oil, propane, or electric.
What matters to you
- Which rooms bother you most? Too hot, too cold, drafty, or noisy.
- Lower monthly bills or lower upfront cost? Both are valid answers.

Don't know an answer? Skip it. Your Field Supervisor will take measurements, check the data plate, and inspect your ductwork as part of the visit.
